A weekly round up, part four

Hey,

I have been blogging now twice a week for five weeks, I'm quite proud of that considering I was too worried to even start this blog.

So this week I started a new job. It's going great though very tiring. I slept for twelve hours last night/this morning! There is a lot more lifting involved than I had considered, so i'll definitely have to go back the gym now to stop me being so weak. Speaking of the gym I also managed to forget my session, I thought it was Thursday when it was actually Monday so had to rearrange it again! I feel terrible, I think it's definitely going to be a hard session now as payback and I don't blame him.

I had a day off on Wednesday and so took a trip to town. I need to stop shopping so much. I had an excuse this time I needed clothes to wear for work. Town was starting to feel more Christmassy and the Christmas market was just being set up. I am determined to actually go to one in full working order at some point, I keep missing them. I took a trip to another favourite shop of mine, A sweet shop well all three sweet shops. Every time I go into these sweet shops I want to buy everything, especially all of the sweets from other countries but they are just soo expensive. It would work out cheaper half of the time to actually go the countries and buy them. At least then I would get a holiday out of it too.

Today was my next day off and I have spent half of it in bed relaxing and the other half catching up on Made in Chelsea, I keep forgetting to watch it. I usually watch Made in Chelsea whilst reading tweets about it cause I find it hilarious. Yes i'm really that sad, don't judge. I also watched the film Monte Carlo as it was on TV and to be honest I really like it, now I also need to add Monaco to the list of places I want to visit.

To get me in a Christmassy mood I have been searching Pinterest for some ideas of Christmas tree decorations or decorations in general I can make. Last year our christmas tree base smashed and the baubles were damaged so this year with a new tree, new decorations in better colours are neeeded. I'm thinking as it's a white tree the decorations should be bright colours.

Anyway I have a few ideas and will no doubt combine them into a blog post soon. I will link my Pinterest below if you want to check it out. I have just started a new one as I kind of like my personal one to stay personal and this one to be more blog related things. I have made the commitment to start pinning more after a recent break from it.

What's on your places to visit list? I'd love to know.

20 Questions/ Get to know me tag

Hey,

I thought it was about time I introduced the real me. What better way to do this than a get to know me tag?

From now on I will be posting Wednesdays and Sundays.

1) When is your birthday? (You don't have to include the year if you don't want to.)
21st September

2) What are 3 of your favourite colours?
Lime Green (Hence Glitter and Lime), turquoise and purple

3) What are your 3 favourite quotes?
There are soo many so I'm just going to choose three random ones from my pinterest board.

  1. If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough.
  2. Trust no one.
  3. Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

4) Are you addicted to YouTube?
Well... define addicted.

5) What are 3 of your favourite shows on TV?
NCIS ( Preferably seasons 3-11, I also don't mind NCIS New Orleans), The Musketeers ( the one with Luke Pasqualino obviously) and Made in Chelsea (I guess this is kind of a guilty pleasure but I don't mind admitting it, it's addictive).

6) What are 3 qualities you like in a best friend?
They have to have a sense of humour, one as odd as mine. Kind, willing to be selfless and help others. Loyal.

7) Do you like your name?
I have never liked the way I say my name, I have no idea why or if I say it differently to others but I just don't like it. As far as the name itself goes I'd prefer something unique. I guess it's okay I mean it could be worse right?

8) If you have the choice to pick your own name, what will it be?
Something unique with an Italian surname. I am Italy obsessed

9) Do you wear makeup?
Yes. Putting on make up is creative and relaxing.

10) If you could write a book, what would the title be and what would it be about?
Glitter, glitter, glitter? I have absolutely no idea. I'll get back to you.

11) What makes you cry?

12) What makes you angry?
People walking in front of me too slowly, or stopping in front of me or walking in to me. Shoo.

13) What makes you happy?
Glitterrrrrr, food and good company.

14) What is "Fangirling?"
When usually girls of around 12 scream and cry at celebrities/youtubers for absolutely no apparent reason and annoy anyone within a ten mile radius. Surely the people these people fangirl over must get sick of it too.

15) What are your 3 favourite snacks?
Pringles, cookies, any sour sweets.

16) What are your 3 favourite foods?
Pasta, cheese, pasta with cheese on top.

17) What are your 3 favourite drinks?
San Pellegrino Limonata (best lemonade I've ever tasted), Coke (it's a classic) and hot chocolate (Cadburys or options banana...please bring it back).

A weekly round up, part three

Hey,

This week was a good week in more ways than one. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I was on a mini I say holiday but I only went 3 hours down the road to Birmingham. I haven't left my city in a while though so I'm calling it a holiday.

I have been to Birmingham a few times mostly to go shopping. City Centre shopping that's all inside is my kind of shopping. This time was no different shopping was top of my list, it is nearly Christmas! Now I'm not really sure what was different about my visit this time but other than one cashier no one really seemed all that friendly and everyone was seemingly in a rush, I'd love to know where they needed to be so quickly. I have to ask is there a reason people stop right in front of you or purposely walk into you? I know I'm small but come on I'm not invisible. I think that is my biggest pet peeve.

After shopping I did some exploring and came across this wheel not too far from my hotel. I thought it looked pretty. I have no idea what it's called though or what the fancy looking building next door is.

Whilst in Birmingham I wanted to visit Five Guys. As it's not a common thing in the UK I wanted to try it and see what the fuss was about. I was massively disappointed. My friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger, I got a grilled cheese and we shared a regular fries. This along with two drinks came to £21.50 which for what you actually get is far too expensive.  My grilled cheese consisted of two burger buns turned upside down with two cheese slices in the middle.  I would only ever visit again for the unlimited refill drinks which are pretty much the only selling point I can see. Grape Sprite, Raspberry Coke... yes please.

It was a fun few days, though sadly the Christmas market didn't start until Thursday, they were just setting it up when I was there. I'd love to visit again now that it is open though.

Thursday I had a training day for a possible job. When I got there I was told that I would do two days training and then start on Monday. I have a job finally, yay! The only thing I don't like so far is having to tie my hair up. My hair is over 24 inches long trying to tie this mane up, whilst covering my ears as if I let them free I run the risk of taking off like dumbo, is a hard task.

Friday I went shopping with my mum, she is arranging a Christmas get together and wants to give out funny novelty gifts to the guests. This wasn't a very successful shopping trip. I mean we got stretchy yellow men/women and paper straws but that isn't quite enough. I can see this being a long mission that involves rushing into shops packed with crazy last minute Christmas shoppers. Speaking of which I need to get my act together and start choosing what gifts to get for people. I have only bought one so far, I don't want to turn into a crazy last minute Christmas shopper.

This weekend I have been relaxing and enjoying my last full weekend off before I start working, and stuffing my face with all kinds of sweets... oops. People need to stop buying me them I'm sure they're trying to fatten me up for the holidays. New jobs are always nerve wracking but I'm excited to make it my own, meet new people and have fun. Wish me Luck!

Mini holiday haul

Hey,

I have been on a mini holiday the past two days (More about this on Sunday.) and I picked up a few things. I decided on two items of clothing I wouldn't usually go for but really want to try pull off .

Firstly I picked up this dress in Forever 21, (Yes I still went in even on holiday...I had to check they didn't have different things in this one obviously) I'm not sure about the colour but I love the style of it.

I have no idea what to wear this with yet but I'm thinking it would be a great Christmas Day dress.

As I was walking around I saw a pair of thick leggings with an Aztec pattern. I loved how thick the leggings were but wasn't sure on the pattern. I then came across these, just as thick but with a better pattern and oh so Christmassy.

I found this bag next in Miss Selfridge, a white bag is not something I would usually go for but it said sparkle and then I turned it over and it did just that. How could I not get it.

Lastly I went in to Selfridges and after looking through all of the sweets and cakes and chocolates my mouth was now watering when I found this.

A huge chocolate meringue, meringues are a definite must always and this one in particular I definitely recommend.

So yeah I kind of didn't have anything planned for today's post, a mini haul seemed the best idea. I love to see what others buy it really inspires me to change things up and experiment.

Any ideas what the dress and leggings would go with? I'd love to hear your suggestions.

A weekly round up, part two

Hey,

So finally it is the last episode of Downton Abbey tonight. Hallelujah! I have been forced to sit through this every Sunday for weeks, it is on as I speak. I've never liked it, I find it one of the most boring and depressing programs on TV. Anyway on to the weekly recap of which Sod's law has been the theme.

Monday, my plans of going to my second personal training session at the gym were thwarted. Mostly because I had to wait in for the gas engineer. Why do they give you such wide time frames? Between 12 and 5 is ridiculous, I have things to do please pick just one time. So I tried to stay warm and beat my cold with hot chocolates and marshmallows, blankets and some NCIS for the day. The best ones with Ziva, not this Bishop woman. I can't take to her at all she faffs about far too much.

Tuesday I took my cousin shopping to spend her birthday money, and well I had to take her with me really, I need her to reach things down from the rails for me cause I'm short and everything I like seems to be up high. She's only fourteen and I'd say at least 5 inches taller than me, those 5 inches really make a difference. I may have bought myself some things too, I buy something every time I visit Forever 21, they know me in there by now... oops.

Wednesday was Bonfire Night, now I know I'm not a fan of fireworks but I wanted to do something to celebrate this year. I didn't want to be outside as it's freezing out there. There was only one option sit in the car and watch from a distance with a portion of chips and some chocolate. This was a great idea and meant we got to see a few displays at once. We drove to the river and watched as fireworks lit the sky from across the water.

Wednesday was also the day I had an interview. As always I was asked no "usual" interview questions, I think it's just normal now for me to have strange interviews. Trying to get dressed ready to attend the interview was a disaster. This is where Sod's law came in to play for the first time. My top was out, ironed and ready to wear, only when I tried it on with my skirt something didn't look quite right about it. I decided to change the top and so went tearing through my wardrobe for another. As I was putting the second top on I noticed a hole in the sleeve and three buttons missing. The next top I tried on had a broken button, the button was literally in half, how does that even happen? Anyway I had ran out of options and so on it went. I put my make up on next...terrible idea. I accidentally tipped some foundation on to my skirt, ran into the bathroom and tried to clean it off, it refused to move. Now I was running later than expected and in desperation threw some black pants on, only to realise they looked awful with the top. I ended up putting on the original top that was ironed and ready to wear in the first place. Great start to the day. The interview, however strange must have been okay as I have been invited to a training day. Hopefully things are looking up on the job front.

Thursday I had to cancel my personal training session again! I feel so bad. I was still ill and exhausted and the idea of getting up early walking to the gym and lifting weights made me want to cry and hide under the quilt. I will get back into this gym thing soon I'm sure. I decided to take it easy and lemsip up. Whilst I was going to be in the house for the day, searching for things I had lost recently became my to do list. Number one on the list a Revlon colorbust lipstick in the colour Crush.

Friday, I had read about the Christmas festival coming to town so a friend and I decided to go and check it out. There was an ice skating rink, an ice slide and other Christmas themed entertainment. If you were not excited for Christmas already you would be after visiting. I decided I wanted to try a milkshake and so chose the best sounding one, Golden balls, Ferrero Rocher and Nutella with a sprinkling of nuts on top. Well it should have been a sprinkling, she filled half of the cup with nuts. Ew. I must remember to ask for none next time. I also need to try a crepe from the crepe stand I noticed on the way out, it's a big statement but I will say crepes/pancakes are my favourite dessert. I am a crepe/pancake connoisseur. After searching the house and every bag I own for the lipstick I had given up and resigned it to being lost for good. As it was a colour I really loved I re bought it.

Saturday the lipstick was found, of course after me buying it for a second time (Sod's law strikes again). It was found in my mum's bag of all places. It's like the Tardis in that thing, why I didn't check it first I'll never know. Well other than the fact I hadn't given it to her and had asked if she knew where it was... hmm. Must be the elves. My mum sent me on a wild goose chase to find a huge baby blue bow for a present she had bought ready to take to the baby shower we had both been invited to. I could find every other colour and made an executive decision that teal was the next best option.

I had never been to a baby shower and so although I didn't know the mother to be or anyone else attending. I decided to be brave and and go, I don't know what I was expecting but when we got there, there were sweets everywhere, I need to attend more baby showers if this is how they all are. It was decorated beautifully in blue and white and made me dream of how I would decorate, what I would do differently and being an event planner, my dream job, something I have always wanted to do.

What's your dream job? Let me know below.

I am off on a small three day holiday this week and so excited so stay tuned for my adventures.

Make up collection and reviews

Hey,

I have decided i'm going to blog Tuesdays and Sundays from now on. Sundays will be A day/week in the life kind of blog whereas Tuesdays are just for whatever I feel like.

As I mentioned in my last post I bought a new cabinet in which to store my make up. Granted not all of my make up but things I use often or want to start using more. Anyway here it is, my new make up storage system. I apologise for picture quality, I am having to use my phone as I'm having camera issues... the issue being I don't have one right now.

Whilst I was choosing which make up I would put in the drawers it gave me a good chance to sort through my make up and so I thought I would document what I currently have.

The first drawer, top left, I have assigned to lipsticks, below are the ones I am currently experimenting with. They are all Rimmel Kate Lasting finish, I love them they just last soo well. (obsessed!). the colours from left to right are:

  1. 04 (Personal favourite, especially around autumn).
  2. 02 (Bright pink I don't wear this as much as the others it is very bright).
  3. 02 (It was buy one get one free they only had this colour).
  4. 01 (For some reason I bought this and haven't even tried it yet).
  5. 107 (This was the first lipstick I ever bought, a few years ago when I was shy when it came to lipstick. This one changed everything for me, my make up now doesn't feel finished without lipstick. For that I think this will always be my favourite).
  6. 107 (Because you should buy lots of your favourite right?)
  7. 101 ( I wanted a lighter more nude colour, I chose this but very rarely wear it, it's just too light almost none existent it's such a shame it looks great in the tube? is that what you would call it?)

The next drawer along, top middle should be for lip gloss, only I don't have any I like all that much right now. I recently bought Tanya Burr Exotic Island I just haven't got round to trying it.

The top right drawer is for eyeshadow, I am on a mission to start doing more with my eye make up.
In this drawer I have:

  1. All about face - Blue Lagoon. ( I don't remember ever wearing this but I love the colour so I'm guessing that's why I kept it).
  2. Stargazer - Fuchsia (Going by the make of this I'm going to guess I bought it in a clothing shop when I was a lot younger and so I probably shouldn't be keeping it but again the colour is lovely).
  3. Rimmel Glam Eyes Trio - 761 Sapphire Moonstone. (First of all can we just appreciate how mysterious and sparkly that name sounds 5 stars for that. I need to use this).
  4. Rimmel Colour Rush - 680 Spring Pinks. (I used to use this a lot. The only problem with this is the colours are not very pigmented).
  5. L'oreal Quad Pro Blue Eyes. (This was a Christmas present, along with a mascara also for blue eyes. I like that it shows you which colour should go where, it helps for those of us not that great with eye make up).
  6. Rimmel (Anyone see a theme here?) Glam Eyes Quad  - 001 Smokey Noir (Again one I haven't used. I repeat I need to get better at applying eye make up).
  7. Trust Dust Loose Mineral Eyeshadow ( I have no idea where this is from or even if it is still available. All I know is it's very glittery and that makes me happy).
  8. Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot - Frozen Violet (Finally one I do wear! I wear this everyday either on its own or along with others, People always comment on how it glitters and best of all it doesn't budge).

In the drawer, middle left, I am storing lip balms/stains/tints basically anything to do with lips that isn't lipstick or lip gloss. The ones living in here currently are:
  1. Maybelline Baby Lips - The blue one? Do they have names? (I love this it definitely does make soft lips).
  2. Max Factor Lipfinity Lasting Lip Tint - 03 (I tried this recently, the colour is lovely dark pink, almost red. I'm not too sure about the lasting part with this one though).
  3. Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint and Balm - 510 Kiss Me (Again the lasting part is not great. I find this feels really weird to put on your lips too).
  4. Rimmel Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint and Balm - 100 Endless Blossom (I do like the name of this one. coming up with them must be a great job).
  5. Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm - 220 Showy. (If I am not wearing Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish I am more than likely wearing one of these. They don't last as well if eating/drinking but they are worth the hassle of reapplying).
  6. Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm - 115 Whimsical. (Lovely sparkly pink colour).

This drawer middle right is a bit of a mixture right now, some blusher, eyeliner and an eyeshadow pencil. Mostly long things that wont fit in smaller drawers, but as long as I know where everything is it's fine right?

  1. Evie Glam Blusher - Has no name or number though it does say a coral pink colour. (I was given this as a present last week and so have yet to try it).
  2. Barry M Super Soft Eye Crayon - 04. (This was bought to use as part of my make up for Halloween. I have tried it and it definitely stands out and lasts longer than you would expect).
  3. Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil. (For my lower lash line every day this is perfect it stays on all day and doesn't smudge. I have tried to find alternatives but always come back to this one).
  4. Rimmel Scandal Eyes Thick and Thin Waterproof Eyeliner - 001 Black. (This sounds great and just what I needed. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. I find this dries up really fast and isn't as long wearing as I would like. I also find this hard to put on, but I don't wear liquid type eyeliners very often so I'm not that great at applying them).
  5. Soap and Glory Supercat Carbon Black Extreme Eyeliner Pen. (I never wear eyeliner anywhere above my lower lash line but I want to start. I had heard great reviews on this so thought I would try it. So far I am impressed and with some practise I think this could become a new favourite.

Bottom left drawer consists of mascara. I get bored with mascara far too quickly so I can't see these specific ones staying for long. I just want jet black, not too clumpy, lasts all day mascara that helps keep my eyelashes curled somewhat and doesn't weigh them down. Is that too much to ask? :p

  1. Mac In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash. (This is the mascara I am currently using. It's jet black, it's not too clumpy and it does last all day but i sometimes find more than one coat weighs my eyelashes down. It is the best mascara I have found for me so far though).
  2. Revlon Custom Eyes - 002 Blackest Black. (I am yet to even open this so I have no idea what it's like yet).
  3. Rimmel Kate Rockin' Curves - 004 Jet Black (I have just finished using this. I bought it mostly for the brush. It's okay, it lasts all day and is good for the price),
  4. Benefit They're real Travel Size. ( I got this free with the full sized one. I wasn't really a fan of this but the travel size is always handy to have. I am way too picky when it comes to mascara).

The drawer at the bottom in the middle is used for concealer. I'm almost as picky with concealer as with mascara I just cannot find one I like or that does what I want it to do, I could use some help.
  1. No 7 Match Made - Cool Vanilla. (I bought this a while ago, used it all and then for some reason decided to try other things for a while. Big mistake, I have now gone out and bought two until I find a new one with a bit more coverage but as long lasting and in a similar colour).
  2. Revlon Colorstay - 03 Light Medium. ( This was my most recent concealer purchase before going back to No 7. I haven't given this enough of a chance, it's the right kind of colour though definitely needs to be put on with a brush).
  3. Lasting Collection Ultimate Wear - 2 Light. ( I had heard great reviews about this and I would say for things like dark circles this is the perfect coverage but for blemishes, not so much).
  4. Lasting Collection Ultimate Wear - 2 Cool Medium. (I think that's what this is, I've used it that much the writing has come off, it looks the same but has a different colour name. I'm thinking this was maybe repackaged? It seems the same thing anyway).
  5. Same as above
  6. Bourjois ( I think, the writing has come off). - 2 Natural. ( This is fine for hiding dark circles and is illuminating),

The last drawer is powders and a highlighter.
  1. Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder - 001 Transparent. (Another thing I purchased after reading great reviews. I was disappointed sadly. This is way too powdery for me even a light dusting of this makes me look caked).
  2. No 7 Creme Touch - Translucent. ( This is fine very mattifying, a bit too much in my opinion).
  3. Kiko Dazzling Highlighter - 02 Gleaming Apricot. (I picked this up on the recommendation of a lovely woman in the Kiko shop in Fuengirola on holiday. I went in there primarily just to look as we didn't have Kiko that widely available in the UK. She told me to smell it and that was it I had to have it just for the smell it's amazing and now reminds me of that holiday every time. It also happens to be a really good highlighter too).
  4. Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder - 1 Light. (I had no idea I even owned this till I put it in here I must try it).
  5. Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium. (This is my new go to powder. Not cakey, mattifying without being too much and hiding your natural beauty and long lasting. I haven't had to reapply this yet and I wear my make up all day).

Last but not least, foundation. I store this just on top of the drawers as it is easy to grab when I'm in a rush and just want some foundation. Foundation for me is the thing I spend most on and the thing I hate to leave the house without wearing. As my foundation is often quite expensive I have been experimenting with cheaper options but to no avail. Orange or off white like cream seem to be the only two colours I find in cheaper options and my skin really is neither of those.
  1. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place - 2C3 Fresco. (I have worn this foundation for at least 6 years. As soon as I was 16 I knew foundation was going to be the most important thing to me and so I went to be colour matched. I have no idea why I chose this particular foundation but I'm soo glad I did it hasn't let me down yet, It really does stay in place. I hate reapplying make up so lasting all day is the first thing I look for).
  2. Mac Studio Fix Fluid - NC15. ( Recently as a birthday present I was given a make up lesson in Mac, I told the make up artist what foundation I was using and she suggested I go for the studio fix fluid. I cant really compare them I like them equally. This shade is slightly lighter and so better for Autumn/Winter).
  3. Rimmel Match Perfection - 102 Light Nude. (This was one of my let me try a cheaper foundation purchases. Completely the wrong colour and just doesn't feel as nice to me. This has now been passed on to my mum to see what she thinks of it).

I know everything works differently for different people these are just my opinions. I'm documenting this more for myself than anything so I can see what I have and what I need.

Do you have any suggestions of what I should try or any just general questions?

Please leave a comment.

A weekly round up

Hey

Here I am half ten at night, full of cold (which appeared out of nowhere when I woke up this morning ... urgh.) and only just sitting down to blog. This week has been really busy, packed with a few firsts and lots of fun.

Monday I was asked to join my mum, aunty and cousin ice skating for my cousin's 14th birthday. It was my third time ice skating so far, I can finally let go of the side on my way round now...go me!
I think if I ever decide to go more frequently I will definitely have to invest in my own skates. Hired skates are ridiculously painful, bruised ankles anyone?  I think they can only be rivaled by ski boots. Anyway I had a great time, my cousin is amazing and held my hand the whole way round she definitely needs to get herself to lessons, think we could have an olympic champion on our hands.

Tuesday was a day I had been sort of, maybe, kind of dreading. I recently joined a gym and Tuesday was my first time with a personal trainer (even writing that makes me laugh). Anyone who knows me knows me and exercise just do not go, I have zero hand eye coordination or upper body strength for a start. The session consisted of a walking test which sounds way easier than it is. I had to walk 1500 km in under 15 minutes on a treadmill as fast as possible, this was fine but not being able to hold onto the treadmill whilst doing this was awful. I was sure I was going to fall off and land flat on my back or face, I pictured it a few times. The trainer said he would laugh if I did.  I ended up working at 95% of my heart rate whatever that means ... not sure I like the sound of it. D: Next session he wants me lifting weights! Wish me luck, i'll need it.

Wednesday was reserved for shopping because who doesn't need a midweek retail therapy session?
I finally found a cabinet type thing for storing all of my make up. Who knew make up storage could be so complicated and expensive. I'm trying to go with a moroccan ish theme for the room and as the cabinet is currently cream i'm thinking it may have to be painted.

(Apologies for the quality, having camera issues)

Secondly I picked up a new winter coat its was priced at £89 originally and in the sale for £40. It's a heavy navy woolen coat with a cream woolen inside. £40 is still quite expensive but for a good quality winter coat that will last I knew I wouldn't find anything cheaper. When I got to the till to pay, the coat scanned at £15 the cashier couldn't believe it, she triple checked! Amazingly it really was £15, the best £15 I think i've ever spent.

Friday was halloween and I spent it in the most unhalloweeny way possible. I was supposed to dress up and had a great idea for a costume but the party was unfortunately cancelled so i'm keeping my costume idea for another year. Me and a friend watched the lego movie and hairspray whilst singing every song ... the poor neighbours. We did try to get in the spirit but I don't think halloween shaped gingerbread biscuits were quite enough, either way it was a fun night.

Saturday was the annual Halloween/bonfire night party at my dads friends' house. I wore my favourite Rimmel purple lipstick to look like I had made some kind of effort. It is definitely a favourite lipstick of mine, I think the Rimmel lasting finish Kate Moss lipsticks are some of the best out there drug store or not; in my experience they last all day even whilst drinking and eating. Back to the party, it was lovely to catch up with friends and family I hadn't seen in a while and see how much all the kids have grown up. We ate good food, drank and watched the fireworks... Well... I watched from the safety and warmth of the kitchen, i've never been a fan of fireworks unless they're small and pretty without making too much noise. Such a wimp I know.

After the party I went to go meet my mum and her sisters at a pub they had been eating in only I forgot my ID and although being four years over the age needed was not allowed in. Felt slightly better when a guy of 26 behind me couldn't get in either, at least we could be embarrassed together.
It turned out to be a good thing my mum, her sisters and I walked to one of their houses and they told me stories of their night, not that I'm sure what they were trying to tell me through all the laughter. I'm thinking that must be a sign they had a good night though.

All in all I'd say it was a pretty good week, now if this cold would do one before my next gym session that would really help matters.

Why job interviews are nothing to worry about

Hey,

Recently I have attended a LOT of interviews for all kinds of jobs and I have to share some of my experiences in the hopes they may be able to help someone else.

Firstly, can I just talk about some of the rooms in which interviews are held. Messy, disorganised warehouses, staff rooms full of personal items and half eaten food strewn all over the place and the worst so far a dirty hotel room!

If that doesn't put you off working there, then come the questions. Before interviews I like to read up on possible interview questions in preparation and this usually ends up me reading the same questions over and over. 'What are your skills and weaknesses?' 'What can you bring to this team/company?' 'Why do you want this job?' I can honestly say it is very rare I have ever been asked any of these questions in an actual interview.

Here is a list of some of the strangest questions I have been asked:

  • What is your best friend's name?
  • Do any of your friends have children yet?
  • What would you do if one day you were walking the halls and found a naked man asleep on the floor? (From the same interview in the dirty hotel room. Thankfully I didn't get that job).
Most interviewers seem to ask questions in which you have to imagine yourself in a certain situation and tell them what you would do in that situation. 'Tell me about yourself?' This is another common question. The hardest question I would say I have been asked is 'What do you think is the next big thing for this company?' Be prepared for these types of questions but not too prepared that it sounds rehearsed.

Next, some interviewers  don't seem to realise how hard it is to be interviewed and how much rests on you getting the job. This always confuses me as surely they have already been in your position before. This kind of interviewer usually has me contemplating. 'If you don't have a position available why are you interviewing? How am I supposed to get experience if no one will give me the chance to gain that experience?

Writing this has made me realise how crazy it is that people worry so much about being prepared for interviews when half of the time the interviewers themselves aren't even prepared. As long as you are well dressed, clean, presentable and know what you excel at and can talk about your experiences easily don't worry about it, after all it's only an interview. (If there are dirty hotel rooms involved run!)

Hey

Hey, my name is Lauren (AKA: Loz) I’m 22 and from England.
(That sounds way too blind datey but oh well.)

Right now that is out of the way, I’ve had this blog for almost a year and never written anything, partly because I was worried, and that’s a stupid reason so I’ve decided just to go for it.

I searched a lot for ways to start and what the first blog post should be but all I kept reading was ‘You need to pick one subject and stick to it’ and ‘you must pick a target audience’. That might help some people but to me that just sounded boring. Why only one subject? Why should I make it so only a certain type of person is interested?

I am going to write about things I’m interested in and care about. That could be beauty, fashion, pictures I’ve taken recently, travelling etc. If this sounds interesting to you too feel free to stick around.
